Tera Triples Presence at Bolognese Publisher
MILAN March 10, 2009 – Tera Digital Publishing has parlayed an agreement to install 15 seats of its GN3 editorial system at a small newspaper in Bologna, northern Italy, into a 55-seat sale under which the paper’s larger parent title will drop its existing system vendor and consolidate both papers on Tera.
Tera reseller GMDE had worked to sell the 15-seat system to Il Domani (Tomorrow), a Left-leaning Bologna newspaper best known for its coverage of politics and sport and aimed at younger readers, when events overtook the paper, launched only in 2000 but recently in poor financial health, and it was bought out by é TV Net 7, a regional broadcaster.
é TV Net 7 is owned by the €452 million turnover Gruppo Spallanzani SpA, based in the nearby city of Reggio Emilia, and at the beginning of 2009 Spallanzani moved to merge Il Domani with L’Informazione, a much larger newspaper the group owns, which has editions in Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Modena, and Parma.
L’Informazione is currently being produced on a 50-seat Macintosh-based editorial system. But under the new agreement with GMDE, the merged publication will move to GN3, which is PC based.
L’Informazione will buy 55 seats of GN3’s Ted editing application and Fred page layout tool and will also install Tera’s XML-based Tark archiving system.
Carlo Caporizzi of GMDE said, “We were able to persuade the L‘Informazione management that GN3 would prove a better system that could run the combined Il Domani and L‘Informazione. We were able to show that Tera could provide better value than the current Macintosh-based system.”
The name of Il Domani, which had been started by the publisher of a similar newspaper with the same title in Calabria in the south of Italy, remains on the front page of the Bologna edition of L’Informazione, and content from Il Domani will reinforce the parent paper.
