Netweek tops 100 seats
MILAN, 20th February 2009 — A chain of 39 newspapers in north west Italy has added another 15 seats of Tera Digital Publishing’s GN3 editorial system to allow it to buy new publications in an expansion aimed at making it one of the largest networked publishers in the country.
The Netweek Media Locali group now has approaching 100 licenses for GN3’s Ted editing application and Fred pagination tool. Journalists at each local title run their terminals in a Citrix Metaframe environment connected to a single GN3 database at the group’s headquarters in Merate, north of Milan. And completed pages are dispatched from Merate to a variety of regional print sites.
The group, which also owns a regional magazine, Milano Metropoli - Lombardia in Europa, has a total circulation of over 300,000 copies and a readership of over 2,000,000, for its weekly and bi-weekly titles that it has built up by gradually buying interests in local publications. One of its latest acquisitions was in January 2009, when it purchased 10% of the weekly paper La Vallée, in the Valle d'Aosta, for €150,000.
Netweek has been able to grow because it is owned by DMedia, a subsidiary of the large, publicly quoted DMail Group S.p.A. media conglomerate, based in Milan, which also has interests in catalogue and internet publishing. That connection has also allowed the Netweek titles to have their own group web portal, www.netweek.it
Tera’s Italian dealer GMDE of Milan made the sale of the new GN3 licenses.
Carlo Caporizzi of GMDE said “A lot of the titles have moved from Quark XPress to GN3 as they were taken over. Because of the different publishing schedules of the publications, Netweek has been able to spread its license use, meaning the 15 GN3 licenses may be used by as many as 40 users, operating at different times of the week.”
